Shelves: angst-by-misunderstanding-lies , cheating-explored , hero-behaving-badly , open-library , second-chance , vintage , 2-star , author-kay-thorpe I waffled between one and two stars and settled on two because at no time was I bored with the story. However, the main characters were so annoying that I think by the end I was reading to see how they were going to stay paired off to spare any other character having to put up with them.
So, on to the nuts and bolts of this second chance story: 24 year-old heroine is returning to Florida to ask her estranged husband for a divorce so that she can marry OM. At the time she was 18 and angry, so she staged a scene where it looked like she was having an affair with one of his enemies.
That was the final nail in the proverbial relationship coffin. She spills wine on her dress and has to dry it in the bathroom. Hero is still attracted and not interested in giving her a divorce. And it goes from there. Hero has the heroine and OM join him and his current squeeze on sailing trip. Heroine complains and this time hero does something about it.
Heroine freaks out, but hero says it was all over long ago. Hero sees them together and he is jealous. They sail back in a storm and he tells her she can have her divorce. Heroine melts. The heroine was kind of a blank, hormonal slate. Further, it was the hero who cheated, but we are shown a scene where the heroine turns down an affair, which proves nothing about how the hero will handle temptation going forward.
Most of it revolved around other things, which was annoying and made it lacking in emotion. Just a moment while we sign you in to your Goodreads account. Though the action is set on Barbados, this has nothing to do with sugar cane. None of the protagonists own or work at a plantation. The heroine is a good for nothing slacker who thinks money grows on palm? Because when you have been in love with a nubile teenager for five years but stayed away because she was too young, what you need to do when returning to her island after five years is a try to forcibly buy her home to turn it into a vacation resort b parade around the island with an OW that you let everyone assume is your girlfriend following you from New York, c let the OM court and propose to your supposed love of your life d leave the love of your life to chauffeur the OW around and gaze lovingly into her face, but only because you are secretly happy about wooing the love of your life. Gag me with a spoon. As I said, these two deserved each other.
